PLAN YOUR RETREAT

Everything you may want to know.

Clear, practical answers about fasting, yoga, detox, the retreat program and booking your stay at Ananda Suruci.

01 · GENERAL

Is this retreat right for me?

Our retreats welcome people with many different backgrounds, lifestyles and levels of experience.

I have never done anything like this. Is it for me?

Most of our guests are new to some—or all—of the practices in the program. We provide clear guidance, physical safety and emotional support throughout the retreat, and the techniques are introduced in a simple, approachable way.

Whether the retreat matches your personal needs is ultimately your decision. If you are unsure, tell us what you hope to gain from the experience and we will help you decide whether the program is suitable.

I have never fasted or practised yoga. I am overweight and live a stressful city life. Is the retreat suitable for me?

Yes. Many guests join because modern life has left them feeling stressed, tired or out of balance. No previous fasting, yoga or meditation experience is required.

The program is supportive rather than competitive. Yoga practices can be adapted, and the detox process is guided carefully. Please tell us about any health conditions or medication when you register so we can assess whether the program is appropriate for you.

02 · FASTING & WEIGHT

Understanding the fasting process.

Weight changes vary from person to person, and lasting benefits depend on the habits you continue after the retreat.

Will I lose weight?

Many guests lose approximately 2–3 kg during the five-day retreat, although results vary. Some of this may be temporary and can return when normal meals are reintroduced.

The retreat is intended as a guided wellbeing reset, not a weight-loss treatment. Long-term weight changes depend mainly on the eating, movement and lifestyle habits you follow afterwards.

How much weight loss during the fast is normal?

A change of around 2–5 kg can occur, but every body responds differently. The most important factor is not the short-term number on the scale, but the healthier routines you establish after the retreat.

I do not want to lose too much weight. What can I do?

People with a lighter build may also lose some weight during a fast, but this is usually temporary. After the retreat, food is reintroduced gradually and you can return to a balanced diet that supports your natural weight.

Please mention concerns about low body weight when registering. We can discuss whether the detox retreat—or the Yoga & Meditation Retreat with three meals daily—is the better choice for you.

Is fasting the same as starving the body?

No. Short, carefully guided fasting is different from prolonged starvation. During our mild two-day liquid fast, fresh juices and vegetable broth provide carbohydrates, fluids and nutrients while allowing the digestive system to rest.

Fasting is not suitable for everyone. The retreat is educational and supportive, but it is not medical treatment. Guests with health conditions, pregnancy, eating disorders or medication requirements should obtain appropriate medical advice before joining.

03 · DETOX

What might I experience?

Rest is an important part of the program, particularly while your normal food intake and daily rhythm are changing.

What symptoms might I experience?

Responses vary. Some guests notice temporary tiredness, hunger, headache, light-headedness, changes in digestion or other mild discomforts. These can also be related to changes in caffeine intake, food quantity, sleep and routine.

Please inform the retreat team immediately if you feel unwell. You will have time to rest, and the program can be adjusted when necessary. Significant or persistent symptoms require appropriate medical attention.

Will I be able to return to work immediately after the retreat?

Most guests can return to their normal routine, but it is helpful to keep the following day or two relatively light if possible. Giving yourself time to rest, reintroduce food gradually and settle into a healthy routine can help you gain more from the experience.

04 · PROGRAM

Yoga, learning and daily practice.

The program combines direct experience with practical explanations so that the ideas become useful in everyday life.

I have read many conflicting books. Why will this course be different?

Wellness and nutrition advice can be confusing because different approaches often contradict one another. Our program focuses on practical experience supported by clear explanations. You can observe how the practices affect you, ask questions and decide what is genuinely useful in your own life.

I am a complete beginner at yoga. Is that a problem?

Not at all. The classes provide a gentle introduction and allow everyone to work at their own pace. The practices are adaptable, and beginners and experienced participants can both gain something valuable from each session.

Am I too old or too stiff for yoga?

Yoga is about learning how your body moves and feels—not performing difficult postures. You will be encouraged to work comfortably within your own range. With relaxed, regular practice, flexibility, strength and balance can gradually improve at any age.
