AN ANCIENT PRACTICE FOR MODERN LIFE

A complete approach to wellbeing.

Yoga is a practical system for the balanced development of body, mind and spirit—not a religion or a competition.

Its methods have been explored and refined over centuries and can be adapted for different ages, backgrounds and levels of experience. At Ánanda Suruci, the emphasis is on gentle, attentive practice rather than difficult poses or physical performance.

Each session invites you to notice the relationship between movement, breath, thought and emotion. With regular practice, yoga can become a steady point of balance within a busy life.

THE THREE DIMENSIONS OF PRACTICE

Movement, breath and meditation.

Yoga becomes most meaningful when posture, breath and meditation support one another.

01

Yoga postures

Gentle stretching, bending and twisting encourage mobility, body awareness and relaxation without forcing or strain.

02

Conscious breathing

Working skilfully with the breath helps connect movement and attention, creating a natural transition towards stillness.

03

Meditation

Regular inward focus can strengthen attention, deepen self-awareness and cultivate a more peaceful relationship with experience.

FINDING BALANCE

A quieter response to a busy world.

Modern life asks the mind and body to remain constantly alert. Yoga and meditation create a deliberate counterbalance—a time to slow down, breathe and release unnecessary tension.

✓   Support flexibility, balance and body awareness
✓   Encourage relaxation and better stress management
✓   Develop concentration and present-moment attention
✓   Create space between stimulus and reaction
✓   Build a steadier foundation for daily life

Benefits vary between individuals and develop through regular, appropriate practice.

YOGA DURING A RETREAT

Practice without pressure.

GentleBeginner-friendlyAdaptable

During our retreats, yoga is intentionally gentle. Sessions combine comfortable postures, stretching, twisting, breathing and deep relaxation, with alternatives offered for different bodies and levels of experience.

On fasting or lighter-eating days, practice is adjusted to conserve energy and support comfort. Yoga is not used to “force toxins” from the body; it supports circulation, mobility, relaxation and mindful awareness while the body rests.

There is no pressure to achieve a particular pose. The aim is to listen more carefully, move with respect and finish feeling calmer than when you began.

“As you think,
so you become.”

the principle of meditation

MEDITATION

Turning the mind towards what uplifts it.

Meditation is a systematic way of gathering the mind around a positive and uplifting idea. Rather than suppressing thoughts, we learn to notice distraction and gently return attention to the chosen focus.

With patient practice, moments of quiet can deepen into a more stable sense of inner peace. Meditation can also help us understand our habits and reactions more clearly, so that daily choices become less automatic and more conscious.

Our experienced instructors introduce the practice step by step. No previous experience or particular religious belief is required.

PRACTICE AT ÁNANDA SURUCI

Space to practise. Time to integrate.

A supportive environment makes it easier to establish a practice that continues after the retreat.

Our residential retreats include guided yoga and meditation each morning and evening, supported by nourishing vegetarian food, practical workshops, nature and genuine time to rest.

The dedicated practice hall overlooks the lotus pond, while the surrounding gardens and orchards naturally encourage a quieter pace. Whether you are beginning for the first time or renewing an established practice, you are welcome.
